The Scripps Health La Jolla Hospital Towers are part of the healthcare giants 25-year facility’s master plan. With patients at the front of mind, the plan includes a new hospital (Tower 2) in addition to research and graduate medical education facilities, and medical offices designed to meet the needs of the San Diego region.
Tower 1 has recently been completed and is a seven-story. 383,000-square-foot tower is the hub of the Scripps Cardiovascular Institute. It features 108 in-patient beds, all in private rooms, as well as 60 intensive care beds, and six state-of-the-art operating rooms, and six cardiac catheterization labs.
Tower 2 is currently ongoing and will be a 433,000 SF 9-story hospital with 171 beds. The main features in Tower II will the Women’s and Infants program which will be comprised of 13 labor and delivery room’s (LDR’s), five high-risk ante postpartum beds, 22 NICU beds, and 40 postpartum beds. The plans also include an accessible garden located on the labor and delivery/NICU floor for laboring mothers and families dealing with high stress situations.
The hospital tower projects will feature a bridge which connects Tower I, Tower 2, and the Central Energy Plant (CEP). Also included in this project is an expansion of the existing CEP and overall site improvements to support the additions to the campus.
Twining’s scope of work includes providing materials testing and inspection and geotechnical engineering during the construction of both towers and the CEP expansion. Specifically, we are providing:
