Sony Pictures Entertainment, Inc. constructed a 236,269 square foot, eight-story office building which houses offices, conference rooms, and support areas, as well as a 6,500-square-feet of commissary, and 2,500-square-feet of museum on the ground floor. The project also included associated site improvements, such as landscaping, and an outdoor seating plaza area, which is situated between the new building and the adjacent production parking pad.
The construction utilized the ConX® Tech system for the vertical structural steel elements, as well as a slab-on-deck system, utilizing 2-to-12-inch-wide concrete spread footings, and 2- to 4-inch-deep grade beams. All structural concrete excluded lightweight, 3,000 PSI, fill on metal deck. The fill for composite box steel columns was 4,000 PSI. Twining performed testing and inspections on placement of compacted fill, foundation work, rebar placement, structural steel, welding, concrete construction, installation of expansion type and adhesive type bolts, concrete masonry, and high strength bolted connections.
